Commitment to Health Equity

Patients Are Our Top Priority

Barstow Community Hospital is committed to providing safe, quality healthcare for patients. We are compassionate and responsive to the needs of those in our care. Through our continuous focus on quality, we are working to change lives and transform the delivery of healthcare.

It is imperative that all individuals in our served communities have access to the care they need, regardless of age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status.

What is Health Equity?

Health equity is defined by the attainment of the highest level of health for all people, where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their optimal health regardless of race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, preferred language, and other factors that affect access to care and health outcomes.

Our Commitment to Health Equity

Barstow Community Hospital embraces the principles of health equity.

Health Equity Initiatives

Throughout the year, Barstow Community Hospital partners with community organizations to help ensure healthcare equity — identifying the unique needs of our respective communities and developing programs, services and events that meet and address these needs. An example of our commitment to Health Equity initiatives includes our financial and staff support of the following events and organizations:

  • American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser
  • Barstow Community Coalition’s annual Resource and Health Fair
  • Barstow Community College’s LGBTQ+ Pride Festival
  • Barstow Senior Center events
  • Barstow Youth Sports Coalition – keeping children active and engaged despite social economic standing of the family
  • Black Infant Health Collaborative Advisory Board
  • California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and March of Dimes Advisory Board
  • Desert Sanctuary’s events and programs for victims of domestic violence
  • Diabetes mellitus educational initiatives
  • Kiwanis Club of Barstow’s “Don’t Meth with Us” program
  • Lose to Win weight-loss challenge
  • Mojave Valley United Way – supporting nine local social service organizations
  • New Mexico Chili Cook-off & Belen Fiestas
  • Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Memorial
  • The Inland Empire Breastfeeding Coalition

In addition, we regularly evaluate (including analyzing market share data) the health equity needs of the communities we serve to identify opportunities for continued improvement. Barstow Community Hospital provides resources and education to decrease health equity disparities and provide the highest level of quality, compassionate healthcare to our patients.
