Barstow Community Hospital has welcomed a new member to its care team — Moxi, an AI-enabled collaborative service robot designed to support nurses and enhance care delivery at the Mojave Desert medical facility.

On March 4, community leaders and local dignitaries were invited to a live demonstration of Moxi on the hospital floor. Developed by Austin-based Diligent Robotics, the robot is designed to handle non-patient-facing tasks, including running patient supplies, delivering lab samples, fetching items from central supply, distributing PPE, and delivering medications.

“This technology reflects our commitment to caring for our community in thoughtful, practical ways. By investing in tools that support our care teams and give them more time with patients, we’re strengthening how we care for people living with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart failure — while keeping care close to home.”
— Adam Loris, CEO, Barstow Community Hospital

Research shows that nurses spend a significant portion of their shifts on routine, non-clinical tasks. Moxi acts as a workforce extension — helping nurses redirect their time toward direct patient care. The robot features a robotic arm, high-speed Wi-Fi, a secure storage system, safety sensors, and a cloud-based software system that continuously learns and adapts to changing hospital workflows.

The demonstration highlighted BCH’s continued commitment to innovation, workforce support, and the thoughtful use of technology to meet the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
